Discover Brantôme from a different perspective
Nestled in a meander of the Dronne river, Brantôme is the gateway to the Périgord Vert. The town boasts a magnificent natural setting and an abbey dating back 1200 years. While a walk is the ideal way to appreciate its charming little streets, a boat trip on the Dronne is a delightful way to discover the small city from a new angle. All aboard!
The electric boat that takes you to discover Brantôme along the water awaits you at the foot of the Pont Coudé, a beautiful 16th-century bridge that once connected the abbey and its gardens.
The first part allows you to discover Brantôme from the river. You can admire the abbey and its bell tower, which we have already discussed here , as well as the attractive facades overlooking the river.
You then leave Brantôme town centre to venture into the “wilder” part of the Dronne. The river is indeed 80% classified as an ecological zone of interest. Quickly, you forget the town as you immerse yourself in nature, sheltered by the canopy. A true bubble of freshness during the hot summer days of the Périgord Vert. During your trip, accompanied by ducks, your guide will introduce you to the fauna and flora of the Dronne.
The trip lasts 50 minutes. Upon returning to Brantôme, you will enjoy a stunning viewpoint of the abbey as the boat returns to dock at the Pont Coudé.
The boat captain, who can accommodate up to 50 people, accompanies you with commentary throughout the cruise, describing the wildlife you will encounter, the history of Brantôme, and the surprising sites you will glimpse in the undergrowth along the banks of the Dronne.
Cruises on the Dronne take place from April 1st to October 15th, with departures every hour, from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.
