Famous for its handmade knives, well known all over the world, Nontron is a city where “art-work” and crafts holds an important place. The city has even received the label "Ville et Métiers d'Art". To highlight the culture of craft brought to an art, did the Nontron municipality open the “Experimental Art Work House” which, through workshops, exhibitions and a shop, presents different aspects of artistic craft in the Périgord Vert.
 

The actions of the “Experimental Art Work House” were primarily intended to promote the establishment and development of Art work in the green Perigord, is it through small workshops, medium enterprises or industries of luxury. This in sectors such as the restoration of patrimony, traditional handworkers or creative crafts. To help it, the “Experimental Art Work House” organizes exhibitions, conferences, events, courses, training, etc

 

The exhibitions take place in Château of Nontron. In this building overlooking the Bandiat valley, an area of 300 m² has been dedicated to craft. The “Experimental Art Work House” organizes 4 or 6 annual exhibitions since 1999. 

In 2010, the exhibition will have the theme of Contemporary Art and Crafts Art (June 12th to August 29th - an exhibition on the links between contemporary art and crafts) and another exhibition will be based on woodworking (September 18th  to October 23th - an overview of the modern woodworking in France and Dordogne)

 
 
Meanwhile, weekly courses of ceramic pottery, tapestry and stained glass are organized to introduce you to these techniques. They take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for everyone older than 15.

The “boutique”, finally, offers you the opportunity of buying original works created by professional regional handcrafts.
